If you're looking for an SUV that gives you the practicality you need every day, but still feels exciting when you get behind the wheel, I think the 2024 Acura RDX A-Spec is right for you.
You get Acura's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, paired with a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. And importantly for Canadian driving, the RDX comes equipped with Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, or SH-AWD. It's a system designed not just to provide traction, but to help the vehicle feel more planted and composed when you're accelerating, cornering, or dealing with changing road conditions.
The A-Spec also gives the RDX a much more aggressive personality. You've got the: dual round exhaust outlets, LED fog lights and A-Spec styling details . It's a vehicle that looks sporty without going overboard.
Then you get inside, and this is where the RDX really starts to feel like a luxury SUV.
The A-Spec features leather-trimmed seating with Ultrasuede inserts, along with heated and ventilated front seats. You've also got a panoramic moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, driver's seat memory, and a power tailgate. So whether you're commuting to work, heading out on the highway, or loading up for the weekend, you're getting the comfort and versatility you'd expect from a premium SUV.
And Acura didn't overlook technology.
You have a 10.2-inch HD centre display, Acura navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the ELS Studio 3D Premium Audio System. The A-Spec also gives you paddle shifters, so if you want to be a little more involved in the drive, you can be.
From a safety standpoint, the RDX is equipped with Acura's suite of driver-assistance technology, including Collision Mitigation Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, Blind Spot Information and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor.
And here's what I think is important about this particular vehicle: you're not buying an SUV where you have to choose between performance, luxury, and practicality.
You get 835 litres of standard cargo space, which expands to 2,260 litres with the second row folded, along with seating for five and a towing capacity of up to 680 kg. So it works just as well for everyday life as it does for a weekend away.
